Product Description

T-SHIRT: Kintoki – a tribute to Katsukawa Shunshō

A sharp gaze, a commanding pose, a costume that speaks before the lines are delivered — this is how kabuki theatre imprints itself on visual memory.
This print depicts Ichikawa Danjūrō V, a true icon of 18th-century kabuki, captured by Katsukawa Shunshō in the role of Sakata no Kintoki. The clean, angular lines enhance the stage presence of the actor, turning a theatrical moment into a timeless image.

The wild child of Japanese legend

Sakata no Kintoki is a legendary figure in Japanese folklore, known for his superhuman strength and wild upbringing in the forests of Mount Ashigara.
Often depicted as a child wrestling bears with his bare hands, Kintoki later became a loyal retainer to the famed warrior Minamoto no Yorimitsu. On the kabuki stage, he became an archetype of raw power and unwavering loyalty — a hero shaped by myth and muscle.
