T-SHIRT: RAMONES – Live at CBGB 1977

Wear a piece of history with this t-shirt celebrating one of the Ramones’ most iconic concerts: their performance at CBGB on February 3, 1977. CBGB, located at 315 Bowery Street, was the sanctuary of punk rock, known for its raw and authentic vibe. One commentator described the venue as “the worst dive in New York in 1977, with bad-quality beer, the smell of urine, and dog feces.” That night, the Ramones set the stage on fire with their unmistakable energy. The audience, made up of fans and the curious alike, was swept away by a performance that would forever mark New York’s underground music scene.

At the time, the Ramones were at the height of their rise: they had just released their second album, Leave Home, on January 10, 1977, and were working on their third, Rocket to Russia, which would come out on November 4 of the same year. The lineup was the original one, with:

  • Joey Ramone (Jeffrey Hyman) – vocals
  • Johnny Ramone (John Cummings) – guitar
  • Dee Dee Ramone (Douglas Colvin) – bass and backing vocals
  • Tommy Ramone (Thomas Erdelyi) – drums

During the concert, they performed songs that would become generational anthems, such as “Blitzkrieg Bop” ,“I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” and “Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue”. Their music, fast and direct, was a revolution against the rock conventions of the time.

Ramones: the birth of punk rock

The Ramones are considered the pioneers of punk rock. Their minimalist aesthetic, short songs, and overwhelming energy influenced countless bands around the world. Their unique style, characterized by leather jackets, ripped jeans, and fringes, became the symbol of an entire generation. Their music broke down barriers between artist and audience, creating a direct and genuine connection.

Wearing this t-shirt means carrying the essence of punk rock with you, a tribute to the iconic band that embodied the beating heart of New York punk and revolutionized music and youth culture. It’s more than just a t-shirt: it’s a statement of belonging to a sonic revolution that still pulses through your veins and blasts through the speakers with every damn chord change.
